DISAGREEMENT BY OFFICIALS
REFERENCE AT HARBOUR BOARD MEETING
Reports of disagreement between the secretary-manager of the Lyttelton Harbour Board (Mr A. L. Burk) and the Town Clerk of Lyttelton (Mr J. Thompson) were mentioned at yesterday's meeting of the board. “We have heard references to the Town Clerk and our secretary affronting one another, and the Harbour Board has to meet the Borough Council,” said Mr F. W. Freeman, supporting the objections of two new members, Messrs F. I. Sutton and W. B. Laing, to the appointment of committees being deferred until the February meeting. “If for no other reason, we should set up the works committee,” said Mr Freeman, “We should relieve the, executive officers of responsibility they should not be asked to take. Perhaps we have been too reliant on our executive officers.”
“They are all town members. Why not a country member?” asked Mr C. W. Tyler (Rangiora) when six members were proposed for the works committee, the immediate setting up of which was decided on by the board. Mr Tyler was nominated for the committee and the committee elected comprised Messrs W. P. Glue (chairman), E. C. Bathurst (deputy-chair-man), Laing, Sutton, Freeman, W. S. Mac Gibbon, and Tyler.
