SUMNER SCHOOL FOR DEAF
VISIT OF MARCHING TEAM TO WELLINGTON (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 19. While crowds lined the streets 10 girls from the Sumner School for the Deaf were escorted to the inter-island steamer tonight by 20 local marching teams and a pipe band after a weekend visit to Wellington. The girls, members of the Sumner school’s marching team, had been guests of the Wellington Marching Association. Highlights of their stay included visits to Parliament Buildings and to the Wellington Zoo today. At the zoo they had afternoon tea with Yoka, Molly, and Breena, the three new chimpanzees, whose unorthodox and unpredictable eating habits delighted the girls. On Saturday evening the girls were entertained at a cinema and on Sunday they took part in a marching competition at the Basin Reserve. Their leader won her section, and the team was placed first equal in the junior display marching.
