Ships Damaged at Auckland
Four British seamen scrambled to safety just before the Tofua (5300 tons) crashed into the forecastle head of the Tyrone (6000 tons) at Prince’s Wharf, Auckland, yesterday morning. The Tofua. from Fiji, was being manouevred into the next berth at the time. The men were Patrick Howlin, John Bird, Alfred Bullen and Peter Manley. They were painting the side of the Tyrone. Tho Tofua buckled the Tyrone’s railing and crumpled part of the port sid* of the forecastle. The New Zealand Shipping Company said the extent of the damage to the ships was not yet known, but the Tyrone, after being repaired in Auckland, would leave for Lyttelton on schedule, next month.— (P.A.)
