Ah application may be made for Auckland to be the venue of one of the Olympic Games. The Games are granted to a city and not a country Already a provincial Olympic Games Committee has been set up in Auckland and this has sent its representative Mr Alwyn Moon to Melbourne to study the organisation.
“I will et as much information as possible and see for myself the extent of amenities requ ; red for the sports themselves, and for housing and catering.” said Mr Moon before his departure. “I also want to find out whether the housing conditions at
Heidelberg Village could be copied here, and make a comparison with the housing facilities we had in 1950. “At present amenities in Auckland for staging the Games simply did not exist, said Mr Moon. What was suitable for the Empire Games was not comparable with what was required for the Olympics. “If my committee is satisfied with my report, and if it is optimistic enough, then we will have to strive to see that the required amenities can be erected by the time an application is made." he s* id. Mr Moon will be received as an official observer in Melbourne and he has been promised every assistance in studying the whole structure of the organisation.
