Coca-Cola Pays £25,000 For Local Business

The business of Wright and Company, Ltd., aerated water manufacturers, Christchurch, has been bought by the Coca-Cola Export Corporation, Ltd., Petone. This was confirmed yesterday by Mr E. Brennan, manager of the Coca-Cola Export Corporation, in a telephone conversation. “We have not made any plans as to the future of our product in the South Island,” he said when asked whether his firm intended to manufacture Coca-Cola at Wright’s Tuam street factory for distribution throughout the South Island. The Coca-Cola Export Corporation was established in New Zealand in 1938, but, because of the war, it did not expand greatly until 1952. The company’s product is now extensively marketed in the North Island, but its distribution in the South Island is limited. One of the products of Wright and Company, which had been marketed for many years, was a soft drfenc called Kodo Cola. The Coca-Cola Export Corporation paid £25,000 for Wright’s business. Mr E. P. C. Wright, principal of the Christchurch firm, said yesterday that his company had been manufacturing cordials for more than 50 years.
