LEADERSHIP OF LABOUR

Shadow Cabinet Election

(Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 16 Labour members of Parliament will vote in a postal ballot this week-end to elect 12 members to their shadow Cabinet—the party’s Parliamentary leadership. The result will be announced next Thursday. The election does not involve the party leader, Mr Hugh Gaitskell, or his deputy, Mr James Griffiths, who were re-elected unopposed after the new session of Parliament began on November 6.

Thirty-four nominations—2o fewer than last year—have been received for the 12 places. They include all the members who served in the “shadow Cabinet” last session.

These are: The party’s treasurer and chief left-wing member, Mr Aneurin Bevan, Mr George Brown, Mr James Callaghan, Mr Tom Fraser, Mr Anthony Greenwood, Mr G. R. Mitchison, Mr Philip Noel-Baker, Mr Alfred Robens. Mr Richard Stokes, Dr. Edith Summerskill, Mr Harold ’Wilson, and Mr Kenneth Younger.
