MASEFIELD SHIELD MATCH

PENINSULA BEATEN BY MALVERN Malvern had a convincing first innings win over Periinsula in a Masefield Shieud match played at Glentunnel on Saturday. 252 and Peninsula was dismissed for 98, giving Malvern a win on the first innings of 150. . . Malvern mainly owed its win to a grand fifth-wicket partnership of 138 by E. Richards and H. Joyce. At the fall ot the fourth wicket Malvern was in the unhappy position of having lost four wickets for 49. The powerful hitting of Richards, however, soon put Malvern mto a sound position. In his 98 he scored five sixes and 10 fours. Joyce, a Brabin Shield nominee, was no less aggressive, and played steady cricket for his 50. The Peninsula batting was not very strong—only three of the batsmen reaching double figures. Peninsula had trouble in handling the accurate bowling of A. F. Wright, D. Gunn, and Richards. Eight of the Peninsula batsmen were bowled. Malvern’s most successful batsmen were Richards (98), Joyce (50), K. Shipley (25), and R. Stuart (24 not out). The former St. Albans Club player, P. O’Malley, was the most successful bowler, taking four for 45. D. C. Masefield took two for 57. , . , . In Peninsula's innings the only double figure scorers were T. Johnson (34 not out).
