SKILFUL RIDING IN MOST EVENTS
GOOD ATTENDANCE AT ARANUI
In almost perfect conditions, events at the Aranui Speedway were closely contested on Saturday evening before a good attendance. Several riders fell during the events. E. Wilde J. Lee handled their machine very skilfully to win both sidecar events. Tneir time for the first sidecar handicap equalled the track record of 71 l-ssec. R. Pidgeon and R. Jarden gave what appeared to be a “rock ’n’ roll’ - exhibition before the start of this race when their machine pitched and heaved. This came to a finale when, on the starting line, one wheel struck the safety fence and the machine overturned. The unluckiest rider on Saturday was 1. Mauger who hit the safety fence in the Brighton Handicap. After a spell he came back to ride later in the evening, but in the nominated riders race, his leg was struck by another machine, and again he had to withdraw. The most exciting race of the evening was the Western Springs midget handicap. T. Hall and E. .Wilde had a grand tussle for first place, with Hall passing Wilde on the last turn. New drivers, M. Soane, W. Clarkson, and J. Shaw, all showed promise. B. .McKeown was the most successful rider' in the motor-cycle events, and W. Rees, C. Jones, and S. Burt also won races.
