MOTOR-CYCLE TEAMS SCRAMBLE
NORTH ISLAND BEATS SOUTH ISLAND
A North IslaYid team beat a South Island team by 211 points to 103 in a , motor-cycle teams’ scramble held at Bay- I non’s farm, Clarkville, yesterday. The I match was arranged by the Canterbury Auto Cycle Club. About 5000 attended the event. The match provided an opportunity for some of the best riders in New Zealand to compete against each other. In the 200 c.c class event, C. Fisk (Christchurch) was the only South Island team member to beat the North Island team, i and in the 350 c.c. class T. McCleary > (Christchurch) beat his North Island I opponent. Oherwise, the North Island team won fairly easily. There were no injuries, though D. McNeill (New Plymouth) and L. Reynolds (Christchurch) both fell and suffered: minor abrasions. In the final of the 350. c.c. event. T. McCleary, who had a bad start, was catching J. Fergusson (Palmerston North) when Fergusson fell, and McCleary hit him. Neither of the riders was injured. Results were:— Up to 250 c.c.: North Island, 65 points; South Island, 39. D. Garnett, of the North Island team, with 27 points, and C. Fisk, of the South Island team, with 22 points, were the top individual riders. Up to 350 c.c.: North Island, 71 points; South Island, 34. Top points , (individual): i J. Williams (South), 17; T. McCleary (South), 18. Up to 500 c.c.: North Island. 75; South Island. 30. Top points (individual): D. Cleghorn (North), 28; I. Merrin and S.
