NEW COUNCILLORS
Mr K. H. Bartlett, a jeweller, is a former member of the Riccarton Borough Council. He is immediate past-president of the New Zealand Jewellers' Association. Mr Bartlett js married, with two children. His recreation is bowling, and in that sport he takes an administrative part as vicepresident of the Elmwood Bowling Club. Mr R. G. Brown rejoins the council after an absence of six years. Up to 1950 he had been a councillor for nine years, during which he was chairman of the baths and entertainment committee. and served one term as chair* man of the Metropolitan Milk Board. He is a member of the Christchurch Transport Board. Mr T. B. Burtt is 41 years oid and managing-director of a furnishing company; but it is as a cricketer that he is best known to the people of Christchurch and New Zealand. On the cricket field he was one of the most popular figures in the sport. Mr Burtt I is on the executive of the Savage r Club, the .Christchurch Businessmen's J Club, and the Christchurch Movie • Club. He is married, with four I children. , t ’ • Mr M. R. Carter learned his trade as a builder in England, has had build- I ing experience in other parts of the • world, and in Christchurch has de- ' veloped his own construction com- , pany. He is 38 years old, married, with four children. Mr 'M. A. Connelly was elected recently as member of Parliament for | Riccarton. An accountant, Mr Connelly is secretary of the Christchurch ■ Labour Representation Committee and chairman of the Trustee Savings Bank Promotion Committee. He is 40 years old, married, wth four children. Mr H. E. was a councillor B during the Second World War and has IB previously served on the Hospital r Board, of which he was chairman. Mr | B Denton, a retired businessman, has had B a long association with the Labour Party and was an unsuccessful candidate at several Parliamentary elec- 1 tions. Mr W. E. Olds is an insurance company manager. He is a sitting member of the Christchurch Fire Board. He has taken a keen interest in school committee work, and is a past-presi-dent and life member of the Canterbury School Committees’ Association. He was a member of the Canterbury Education Board in 1947-48. Mr Olds is Dominion president of the Federation of New Zealand Justices of the Peace Association. Mr W. L. F. Utley is a 34-yenr-o]d surgeon, and is married, with two children. While doing post-graduate study in London for four years. Mr Utley became interested in local body administration, particularly town planning. He is a member of the Christchurch Harmonic Society.
