OBITUARY
MRS A. E. BURNETT
Mrs Agnes Ellen Burnett, who died recently at her home, Mount Cook Station, in the Mackenzie Country, was the widow of Mr T. D. Burnett, a member of Parliament for Temuka from 1919 to 1942. Mrs Burnett was. before her marriage. Miss Little, of Annandale. Cave. Members of hei family were also well-known sheepfarmers in the district.
Although she was of a retiring disposition, Mrs Burnett was a strong force in her husband’s Parliamentary career. She retained an interest in Parliamentary affairs until the time of her death
When Mr Burnett set up and endowed “Stratheona” as a trainin e centre for young countrywomen, Mrs Burnett took an active interest in its direction until the centre was taken □ver by the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers.
Mrs Burnett was an enthusiastic supporter of the Leper Trust Board, the Salvation Army, and the Presbyterian Church. She was also keenly interested in the work of the South Canterbury Rose Society and the South Canterbury Horticultural Society. A hobby was bird-watching. After her husband’s death Mrs Burnett ran Mount Cook Station, living there with a son and daughter. v
