Shorter Week In Car Factories
(Rec. 11.30 p.m.) LONDON. Nov. 18. Six thousand workers of the Rootes Group, which makes Humber. Hillman and Sunbeam cars, will go on a fourday week next week, newspapers reported today. A company spokesman said that the reasons were the Suez crisis, the possible cancellation of orders, and difficult market conditions. Between 200 and 300 men would be dismissed soon, he sgid.
Death Penalty Bill
<Rec. 10.30 p.m.) LONDON. Nov. 18. The House of Commons last night gave a second reading to a Government bill to modify the law on murder and the death penalty. Members of all parties who think the death penalty should be abolished did not oppose the measure last night but they said they would try to amend it at a later stage.
