Mr lan Gray, the United KingdomTrade Commissioner, is paying a farewell visit to Christchurch before going to Britain on leave, after which he will take up an appointment in Cape Town. He will spend the next two days in Christchurch, during which he will be the guest of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association and the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce.
Captain G. Laidlaw has relinquished his appointment as staff captain. Q, Southern Military District, and left on Monday to take over as Area Officer. Area 12, Invercargill. Mr E. F. Rothwell, of Lower Hutt, has been appointed Judge of the High Court of Western Samoa, and is expected to take up his duties early next year. Mr Rothwell has practised law in Lower Hutt since 1927.—(P.A.) Second-Lieutenant L. G. Williams, of the New Zealand Regiment, has been selected for service with the New Zealand Special Air Service Squadron in Malaya. He will be relinquishing his appointment as an inrantry instructor at Burnham Military Camp, and will go to Malava about November 14.
Mr D T. P. Pain, secretary of the international Amateur Athletic Federation. London, will visit New Zealand early next week. He is in charge oi track and field events at the Olympic Games. Mr Pain will reach Ck fl an ( °w Sunday from America, and fly to Wellington the same dav. 1 Chr,s tchureh on Thursday for Melbourne. (P.A )
