FENCE HEIGHTS AT CORNERS
PROPOSED WAIMAIRI BYLAW
The Waimairi County Council discussed a proposed by-law giving the county engineer power to order owners or occupiers of properties to lower fences at intersections to a height not more than three feet from a point level with the crown of the intersection.
Cr. F. P. Sisson said he did not like the by-law. and would fight against it “hammer and tooth.” “What is going to happen to the orchardists who have trees to protect their properties, and you order that thev be cut down?” he asked. The county clerk (Mr K. Maclauchlan) said such a provision was contained in the Public Works Act and in the new Counties Act. “I think it will get a fair thrashing when it comes before the new council." said the chairman (Mr W. E. Cassidy 1.
The council did not proceed to adopt the by-law. as it could not insert in its resolution the date of the meeting of the new council when it would have to be confirmed. The confirmation cannot be done at the final meeting of the old council next month, because there are not 28 clear days before that meeting.
