RELIGIOUS DRAMA SOCIETY

“ EVERYMAN ” NEXT PRODUCTION

“Everyman,” one of the most famous mediaeval morality plays, will be presented in the Christchurch Cathedral for a week from November 7, by members of the Christchurch Religious Drama Society. Mr Frank Newman is the producer. The play will be performed on a rostrum in the middle of the nave of the church and six rows of seats will be arranged round the acting area. This means that no member of the audience will be further than six rows back from the stage. The role of Everyman will be played by the Rev. P. W. D. Parr, who took the’ part of Beckett in “Murder in the Cathedral” presented by the same society in the Cathedral in 1954.

Music for the production will be recorded by Mr C. Foster Browne and Cathedral choristers. Magnificent mediaeval costumes, to be worn by the cast, will be shown to their best advantage against the Cathedral setting. Mr Newman also produced “Everyman” in the chapter house, of the Canterbury Cathedral, Britain, some years ago.
