LANDING AIDS AT HAREWOOD
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE INTEREST
The air vigilance committee considers that the early installation of ground control approach equipment at Harewood and Whenuapai airports is a matter of urgency, says the report of the council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce to be presented to| the annual meeting next week. “Apart from the safety angle, the equipment is necessary because of the heavy expenditure incurred by the National Airways Corporation in the transport of passengers by road when airports have been closed, and because of the increasing overseas traffic and the use of these airports by planes from the Antarctic during the international eeophvsical vear.” says the renort. “The Auckland Chambers and] others have been invited to join thei Canterbury chamber in urging the installation of this equipment.’’ Throughout the year, the chamber; has considered the question of G.C.A for Harpwood, and the relative merits of the various types of ‘he equipment. The caution of the Civil Aviation Administration was noted with approval.
