POSTAL VOTING AT ELECTION
LOCAL BODY PLANS Application forms for postal voting in the local body elections on November 17 will be sent to the institutions of the North Canterbury Hospital Board during the week before the polls and arrangements have been made for nursing staff to witness the declarations of patients. This scheme will cover the Christchurch Hospital, the Burwood Hospital, the Cashmere Sanatorium, and the Jubilee Home. Similar arrangements have been made for the larger private hospitals. Postal voting papers in other circumstances will be available in the fortnight before the elections, but definitely not before November 5, said the Returning Officer (Mr H. S. Feast). Applications for them must be made in writing, signed by the applicant, or by a deputy with written authority. Papers would be posted in response to these applications or they might be collected in person by arrangement. Postal voting papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer or a polling booth before voting closes at
7 p.m. on November 17. Postal voting is permitted only to persons who may be travelling on polling day, who are more than five miles from a polling place, or who are denied access to a bctoth through illness or other infirmity.
