Sports Cancelled
Many sports fixtures were cancelled on Saturday because of the bad weather and the state of the grounds. The Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association postponed the opening of its second grade mixed competitions and the primary schoolboys’ matches at Wilding Park were cancelled. The Malvern Cricket Sub-association’s competitions, the Motor Racing Club’s meeting at Rangiora, the South Brighton Tennis Clubs opening, the Canterbury College Cricket Club’s opening, and the Hurunui Girl Guides and Boy Scouts’ rally were cancelled. The St. Bede’s College athletip sports were postponed. Although the'Canterbury centre, of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, cancelled its opening at Rugby Park many athletes turned out for training and informal events.
