ANOTHER WIN FOR ALDORA AT FORBURY PARK MEETING

TROTTING

Aldora, an easy winner in a slower elass the previous week, proved too good for his opponents in the Presi- ? Handicap, the main race and first leg of the double on the second day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s spring meeting on Saturday. Aldora was in front all the way and ran on too solidly for Invicta, which had been second to him when he won on the first day of the meeting. Lady Shona was right up third, clear of Fervent Scott, but none of them appeared likely to trouble the winner. A four-year-old stallion by Medoro from Alcove, Aldora is trained at New Brighton by M. C. Flaws for Mr W Thomson, of Christchurch. He is a good type of pacer and his recent form has been of such a high standard that he should not be troubled to continue paving the way in the stronger company he will now meet. Invicta, which is owned in Dunedin by Mr L. Duff, gained a popular and overdue win in the second leg of the double, the City Handicap. He had had two seconds and a fourth in his other starts at the meeting and his win was well deserved. However, he had to work hard to beat Super Royal, which paced a sound race considering her lack of hard race condition. The Aldora-Invicta doubles combination returned £2l 10s for £l, there being 1505 successful 10s tickets. Ricochet and Thunder dominated the betting in the Recovery Handicap, the main sprint race, which was won in splendid style by Trueco, but neither of them reached a dividendpaying place. Trueco’s performance was a grand one as he was having his first start for the season. He is expected to be one of the best winners among the pacers this term. The meeting opened in dull weather before a small crowd. The sun shone later m the day. The track was slow early, but improved later on. Totalisator investments amounted to £56.361 15s, including £5511 5s on the double, compared with £67,887 10s last year. The total for the two days was £118.742 15s, compared with £139,201 as last year.

Aldora’s Win Aldora recorded a game effort to win the President’s Handicap after making practically all the pace. He set a leisurely pace in the middle stages of the race. Lucky Hall was practically on terms with him most of the way and shaded him with seven and a half furlongs to run. However, Aldora was clear again with half a mile to run and turned for home ahead of Fervent Scott, with Lady Shona, Invicta, Count Grattan, Ruth Again, and Banjo all handy. Although strongly challenged, first by Lady Shona and then by Invicta, Aldora stuck to his task gamely to win by a short length. Invicta appreciated the firm going and finished on well once he worked clear, and his placing was a useful one. He was only a head in front of Lady Shona, which broke at the start, colliding with Battalion, which lost his driver. Fervent Scott was beaten off fourth after having every chance. He broke at the start, but did not lose much ground. Banjo was right up fifth lust ahead of Ruth Again, with Count Grattan next, clear of Direct Hall, Lucky Hall and Loraine. Loraine and Count Grattan lost

ground at the start, being hampered by the driverless Battalion. Win for Trueco Trueco, which was having his first start since May, caused an upset when he finished fast in the straight to win the Recovery Handicap. Direct Hall made all the pace, being followed with five furlongs to go by Count Grattan, with Trueco next on the outside of Ricochet. Thunder was just behind Trueco. with Aladdin on the outside of him and Starbeam not far away. Trueco followed Direct Hall into the straight, with Count Grattan and Thunder next and Ricochet also handy. Direct Hall looked likely to win just inside the furlong, but he came to the end of his run soon after and Trueco, responding in his best style, came on to win by a length. Direct Hall paced his best race for some time to hold on for second, half a head in front of Ricochet, which had to change course in the straight to make his run. He did very well to 'finish so close up. Count Grattan, which also failed to get a clear run in the straight, was a short length back, fourth, a neck in front of Thunder, which did not seem happy on the turning track. He had every change, but made no real impression. Starbeam was 10 lengths back, next, eight lengths in front of Aladdin. Invicta Wins at Last Invicta, a good second to Aldora at his two previous starts, gained an overdue win in the City Handicap. He was awkwardly placed with five furlongs to run, but moved up to be fourth with three furlongs to run. Super Royal was the leader at the end of a furlong and she set an easy pace, which increased sharply when Kilcullen rushed from the rear to take control with one mile to run. Showdown began well, but broke at the end of a furlong. He was just behind Kilcullen on the outside of Super Royal with six and a half furlongs to run.

Showdown began to tire racing to the straight, where he was just behind Kilcullen, Super Royal and Invicta, with the others down the track. Kilcullen began to stop inside the furlong and Super Royal was challenged bv Invicta. The latter responded well and won bv a length and a half. Super Royal held on well considering her lack of racing, and she was a length in front of Kilcullen. with four lengths to Showdown, which was followed by Super Royal and Quo Vadis, with Mighty King beaten

Driver Cautioned After the running of the Visitors’ Handicap at Forbury Park on Saturday an inquiry was held into interference caused to Parable by Albert Hall at the straight entrance. After the inquiry P. G. O’Reilly, driver of Albert Hall, was severely reprimanded, it being found that much of the trouble could be attributed to Albert Hall boring.
