OHIO WINS MAIN SENIOR GAME

SUCCESSFUL DAY FOR LINWOOD The Linwood club had a field day when the Canterbury Softball Association's competitions were resumed at Hagley Park on Saturday. All its teams had wins and the senior men’s side caused an upset with a 6-5 win over the strong Christchurch team. In the senior women’s section, Monowai had an easy 21-5 win over Vanguard. The main senior men's game between Ohio, last season’s champions, and Papanui began with Ohio being unable to score in its opening innings. Papanui took a one-run lead at its turn to bat. Ohio scored a single run at its next innings after a dropped catch in the outfield, but Papanui held the lead at the end of two innings. Both teams failed to score in their third innings, and Papanui’s fourth innings was also scoreless through excellent pitching by A. Ballantyne. A good steal by B. Till put Ohio in a good position in the fourth, and after another Papanui scoreless innings. Chio went ahead after a good hit by Ballantyne and a long drive by R. Lew.

Papanui, falling into many errors, allowed Ohio to take the upper hand for the rest of the game and after two three-up three-down innings by the Papanui side, Ohio won 7-3.
