BRAWL AT BOXING
Melbourne Mob Incensed
(Rec. 9 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 13. A wild brawl among spectators marked the opening last night of Melbourne’s new £250.000 boxing stadium —the venue for the Olympic Games The capacity crowd, dominated by Italian migrants, was pleased at a nnints decision for the Italian, Bruno Visintin, over the Australian, George, Barnes, in the main match. But an hour earlier the crowd was iii a nasty mood when the referee. Vic Patrick, gave a decision to the Australian, Young Varden, over the German migrant. Wally Jenkins. The spectators hooted Patrick, and a glass was thrown from one jeering section to smash in pieces among the ringside seats. Police escorted one man from the stadium. Later, during the Visintin-Earnes bout, an Italian in the bleachers section. apnarently objecting to a remark about Visintin. knocked down an Australian. The Australian rose, and pushed both his adversary and the latter’s woman companion to the floor. At least another 20 men leaped into the fray. The woman was trampled on. Fists, boots, and bottles flew before police moved in. In the meantime, the scheduled fight was continuing, with Visintin forging ahead on points, and although Barnes fought back in the closing stages he could not make up the leeway.
