Mr N. Kesavan will be succeeded as acting-High Commissioner for India in Wellington by Mr P. N. Menon, at present Consul-General in Tibet. The appointment of Mr Kesavan as Commercial Secretary at the Indian Embassy at Rangoon, Burma, was announced last week.— (P.A.)

Mr G. Griffiths, agricultural adviser to the United Kingdom High Commission, who has been in England on leave, returned to Wellington by air at the week-end.— (P.A.) The Rev. Alan A. Brash will return to Christchurch tomorrow after visiting branches of the National Council of Churches in Blenheim, Nelson and New Plymouth, and attending the annual meeting of the National Missionary Council in Wellington. The resignation of Mr W. W. Sawyer, lecturer in mathematics at Canterbury University College, was received at a meeting of the college council yesterday. The Rector (Dr. F. J. Llewellyn) said that he understood that Mr Sawyer was going to an appointment overseas. Before coming to New Zealand in 1950 Mi; Sawyer was head of the mathematics department of the University College of the Gold Coast. From 1945 to 1947 he was head of the mathematics department in the Leicester College of Technology. Earlier he was assistant lecturer at University College, Dundee, and at Manchester University. Mr W. A. Perkins, principal of King’s College at Lagos, Nigeria, arrived at Wellington yesterday to tour New Zealand.

Mr C. P. Smith, who has been postmaster at Hokitika for two years and a half, has been appointed chief postmaster at Oamaru. Before he went to Hokitika, he was postmaster at Queenstown for four years and has been stationed in numerous South Island offices.

Mr J. A. Coats, manager of postal branches at Dunedin, has been promoted to a similar post at Christchurch. He will replace Mr L. B. Chambers, who will retire at the end' of the month

Messrs W. R. Carey (woollen mills). G. J Inglis (rubber), S. C. Andrews (printing), T. G. Shanks (footwear), and C. H. Stockbridge (clothing) were last evening accepted by the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association as nominees of trade groups on the council. Other appointments to the council were Messrs B. F. Johns (affiliated members) and M. B. Richards (Timaru branch).
