WOMEN’S WAGE PROBLEMS

PRIME MINISTER’S CONFERENCE

WELLINGTON MEETING ON OCTOBER 3 (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 21. Discussions which the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) is to have with representatives of women’s national organisations will be held on October 3. The meeting, which will be held in the Prime Minister’s office in Parliament Buildings, will discuss problems of womens wages and other matters of specific interest to women. Organisations which have so far notified the Prime Minister of the names of their representatives are:— Young Women’s Christian Association: Mrs P. C. Davie (Dominion president).

New Zealand Registered Nurses’ Association: Mrs M. Chambers (Dominion president), and Miss M. I. Lambie.

New Zealand Women Teachers’ Association: Misses M. A. Bradstock and M. H. Hill (Dominion oresident and secretary respectively). National Council of Women: Mesdames R E. Cumberbeach and D. S. Kemshed (Dominion president and secretary respectively). Maori Women’s Welfare League: Mrs M. Szaszy (Dominion secretary-trea-surer). Women’s Division of Federated Farmers: Mesdames N. W. B. Schroder, R. M. Stevenson, and A. B. Smith (Dominion president, treasurer and secretary respectively). Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Jlubs: Miss Challis Hooper (immediate past-president), and Mrs Vera May (finance committee chairman). Equal Pay Sub-committee. New Zealand Publip Service Association: Mrs J. S. Mcßeath convener) and Miss M. C. Brand. i Federation of University Women of New Zealand: Mrs W. Grant (Dominion president) and Miss Beryl Jackson (chairman of the public affairs and Parliamentary committee). New Zealand Post-Primary Teachers’ Association: Miss J. N. Wallace (Palmerston North Girls’ High School). New Zealand Educational Institute: Miss M. Grigor. Several organisations have yet to advise Mr Holland of their representatives. and the subjects they wish to discuss with him. Subjects of discussion already notified include equal pay and equality of opportunities for women, appointment of women to public positions, and women’s service on juries.
