PARLIAMENTARIANS’ VISIT

RESIDENTS AFFILIATED OPPOSES SCHEME The Canterbury Progess League’s proposal for a visit by a Parliamentary delegation to Canterbury early next year was opposed at a meeting of Residents Affiliated in Christchurch on Thursday evening. A letter will be sent to the league, informing it of the decision. “After the joy-ride that members of Parliament had in Auckland, we do not want the same to happen here.” said one of the delegates. ‘‘We could well use the money on roads and footpaths, which are badly in need of repair.” “it has been reported that the Mayor is lukewarm on the proposal.’’ said the chairman (Mr J. Palmer).

‘‘l would say that the people of Christchurch are in a deep freeze over it. For the Progress League or anv other league to sponsor such a visit is crass stupidity.” After several delegates had spoken against the proposal, the motion that the organisation was opposed to the visit was carried unanimously.
