CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE

YEAR’S WORK REVIEWED The annual report of the Catholic Women’s League, which will be presented at the annual meeting of the league this evening states that Miss H. Nottingham, a foundation and life member, will retire from the </ouncil this year. In 1937-38 Miss Nottingham was assistant secretary, and since 1939 has been a vicepresident. During her long association as a councillor she has ably represented the league on outside organisations. “To Miss Nottingham we say a heartfelt ‘thank you’ for the years of loyal service given so generously to the league,” states the report.

The report gives a resume of community work done by members. The work includes the selling of health stamps, helping the Red Cross Good Neighbour Service. the Langford House Committee, the Mayor's Coal and Blanket Fund, the Glenelg Health Camo, the Association for the Blind, the Save the Children Fund, hospital visting. and assistins with street collections for several organisations. Miss Nottingham had given many years service to the Friends of St. Helens, an organisation which had now disbanded. Circles had made club work interesting for many members and the Homemakers’ Group had a large membership, stated the report. In her report of the Homemakers’ Group. Mrs R. C. Boland said: “We owe the hostesses a deep debt of gratitude for their splendid and sometimes unnoticed work. The most friendly and kindly co-operation of Mrs McLellan has been much appreciated bv the committee. Without the goodwill of our husbands, there would be no group, so our thanks go to them for their cheerful sacrifice." The formation of a floral class for group members had met a need, and under the capable direction of Mrs R. Elcock, splendid results had been achieved. The group hoped to start a millinery class if sufficient support was forthcoming. The report includes a review of the wear’s activities at Akaroa. Ashburton. Halswell, Hokitika, Rangiora, Runanga, Sumner, Temuka, Timaru, and Waimate.
