ST. MARTINS SMOKE NUISANCE
Sir, —I was ' very interested to read in your paper of the excellent work done by the Government in doing away with the smoke nuisance at Riccarton. As a resident of St. Martins I feel that something could be done by the owners of the brick works, where there are large chimneys which belch forth filthy black smoke at all times of the day and night. Does this firm realise the menace black smoke can be to lines of clean white washing. and what a menace also to the houseowners who take a pride in keeping their houses nicely painted?— Yours, etc., FED UP. July 5, 1956. [“lt is agreed that smoke nuisances must be mitigated, especially in developed areas, but further details are desirable.” said the County Clerk of the Heathcote County Council (Mr R. W. Morris). ‘‘l suggest the correspondent call or write giving particulars of the offending firm, if it is m the county.”]
