DEATH OF MR lAN DONNELLY
Bishop’s Tribute At Requiem Mass
Mr lan Donnelly, editor of the “Timaru Herald,” whose funeral took place yesterday, was a man who had been extraordinarily fully equipped by nature and his personal gifts for his chosen vocation of journalism, said Bishop Joyce in a brief eulogy after the Requiem Mass in St. Mary’s, Manchester street.
A devoted and affectionate father, a brilliant journalist—an ornament to a profession of the members of which New Zealand was justly proud—Mr Donnelly had brought to his profession an honesty of purpose and a rare
skill for making friends of all those with whom he came in contact.
A realist, he had maintained in al' his dealings the principle that all those
who assisted in the production of an article should receive their full due. said Bishop Joyce.
Although keenly interested in the affairs of the world, he never lost sight of the meaning of religion, and never more than in his last days, when he knew death was approaching, he put first things first.
The funeral services vere attended by many friends and colleagues of Mr Donnelly from Timaru. Christchurch, and other centres.
