HALL AT BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL

PROPOSAL TO IMPROVE ACOUSTICS A tender of £285 for panelling on the rear wall and returns in the assembly hall at Christchurch Boys’ High School for improving the acoustics was approved at a meeting of the school board of governors yesterday. The tender and the scheme will be submitted to the Education Department, with an application for a grant to cover the cost. The tender is for part only of a major scheme to improve the acoustics. The scheme was evolved by an architectural engineer of the New Zealand Broadcasting Service. “We feel that this part of the job can be done without interfering with the appearance of the hall, and if it is successful, it will not be necessary to go any further in the work,’’ said the chairman of the board (Mr C. H. Perkins). Experts from private firms as well as the Broadcasting Service had been consulted, and officers of the Education Department had agreed that something should be done to improve the acoustics in the hall, said the headmaster (Mr J. Leggat).
