NASHUA WINS AT BELMONT PARK
(N.Z Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK. July 4. Nashua, the world s leading money winner, increased bis total stakes today by winning the Suburban Handicap at Belmont Park. Although beaten at his two previous starts. Nashua was favourite, and paid odds of 6 to 5 against for a win. Carrying top weight of 9-2 in a highclass field of distance runners,\ Nashua ran the mile and a quarter in 2min 0 4-ssec—four-fifths of a second off the track record. Nashua, a son of the imported British sire Nasrullah. won 55.900 dollars (nearly £25,000). to bring his total stakes to 1,158.765 dollars (about £517.300). Indicate, an outsider, battled it out head and head with Nashua from the six furlongs post until half way down the striaght. when Nashua drew away to win by a length and a quarter. Subahdar, another outsider, was third.
