YOUTHS SENTENCED FOR RAPE
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 5. Two youths who raped a 14-year-old girl in a hut in a camp at Otahuhu and auain later in a deserted area of Richmond Park were sentenced to Borstal training when they appeared in the Auckland Supreme Court before Mr Justice Shorland today. The facts showed almost unbelievable brutality by the two prisoners and another b'ly against a defenceless girl, his Honour said. The youths. Raniera Pohatu, aged 17. and Hori Karaki (George) Johnson, aged 18. labourers, admitted the offence at Otahuhu on June 21. “This is a very bad case and I have some doubts whether, having regard to the brutality. Borstal training is really adequate,” said his Honour.
