PLUNKET SHIELD DISTRICTS
CANTERBURY AGAINST INCREASE
“Canterbury is against the inclusion of Northern Districts as a sixth Plunket Shield side,” said the secretary of the Canterbury Cricket Association (Mr I. A Baxter), in a statement issued after the matter had been considered in committee at a meeting of the management committee last evening. “We consider that the application should be deferred until the reconstitution of the New Zealand Cricket Council." said Mr Baxter, “when a sub-committee representing all major associations and North and South Island mihors be set up to consider the position of first-class cricket in New Zealand, with particulai reference to the number of Plunket Shield teams and boundaries applying thereto
Such a report to be referred to a special meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council bv June. 1957." (The reconstitution of the New Zealand Cricket Council will be considered at the bi-annual meeting of the council, to be held in Christchurch next Thursday.)
