EIGHT CANTERBURY NOMINATIONS
nJ? T i n ei . sht P ,a J' er s to take part in the New Zealand trials for the Olympic Games was approved bv the Canterbury Hockey Association at its meeting last evening.
The players chosen by the Canterbury selector (Mr R. Randle) are:—D Goldsmith (High School Old Boys), goal•®t£ er ' 4 ’. J - Abrams (Woolston), right or left back. 21; P. Cotton (Sydenham) right wing, 25; N. Hobson (Woolston), inside right. 21; I. Armstrong (High School Old Boys), inside lelt or centre forward. 28; K. Cumberpatch (Svdenham), inside left. 28; J. Kiddev (High School Old Boys), left half or utility player. 26; M. McKinnon (Sydenham), lelt wine or utility forward. 24.
The trials will be held at Masterton in August.
The following sub-committee was appointed to organise the shield tournament: Messrs R. A. Milne (chairman), P. Graj'. M. Good. E. Malone (grounds), W. H. Downs (reception and accommodation), E. Wickes J competitions), E. Hobson (entertainment), R. Jenkins (publicity), C. Rogers (programmes). Application will be made to the Canterbury Women s Hockey Association to hold the tournament on its grounds at Hospital corner.
There were 66 teams in the association’s primary schools’ competitions, stated a report from the Junior Hockey Association. This compared more than favourably with Auckland, where there were only 44 teams. No challenges had been received for the Hatch Cup.
Approval was given for the representative match against Canterbury Minor Associations, to be held on the morning of July 21 instead of July 14.
