EARLY VEGETABLES AND FLOWERS
GOOD SUPPLIES ON LOCAL MARKETS
The first supplies of early vegetables and flowers are at present arriving on the market at Christchurch. Prices for spring cabbages, which are fairly early this year, are slightly dearer than usual. Carrots and parsnips are plentiful. Plenty of Oamaru cauliflowers are at present on the Christchurch market. Supplies of winter rhubarb are coming from Cheviot. Quality so far is noticeably good, the auctioneers say.
Quantities of New Zealand-grown mandarins are on the market at present. Although they are of good quality, they are fairly expensive. The market price is over 2s a pound. A good supply of early flowers is coming from the Mount Pleasant district. A few cream narcissi, from North Auckland. are selling at about Is 3d a buuch. Sample market prices for locally grown flowers are:—Soleil d’Or. 3s a dozen blooms; daisies. 12s a dozen bunches; poppies, 17s; tangerines, 18s.
