Atom Cloud’s Progress

PERTH, June 22. With the atomic cloud last reported 100 miles out to sea off the Western Australian coast, the tracking Royal Air Force Canberra jet bombers, which have watched the cloud’s movements since the Montebello explosion on Tuesday, were recalled to their base today. The crews, however, are standing by and will remain on the alert until they receive a final signal from the Australian safety committee.

Group Captain S. W. B. Menaul, commander of the R.A.F. group, said to-night: “I believe we have practically finished our job. We will continue radiological survey flights over the coast and inland areas for the next few days to check that there is no radioactive fallout.”
