VICEREGAL (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 22. This morning, the Governor-General (Sir Willoughby Norrie), as Prior in New Zealand of the Most Venerable Order of St. John, opened the annual meeting of the Priory Chapter. Lady Norrie accompanied his Excellency. In the evening. Dr. D. H. Craven, manager of the Springboks, and Mr S. S. Viviers. captain of the team, were the guests of their Excellencies at dinner at Government House. Four nominations have been received for three vacancies for woolgrowers’ representatives on the New Zealand Wool Board. They are Messrs C. H. Bethell (Waikari), A. T. Dillon (Awakino), W. Horrobin (Waikane), and H. J. Wardell (Kurow). Messrs Bethcll. Horrobin. and Wardell are sitting members of the board. — (P.A.) Tributes to Mr L. E. Rowley were paid by the Canterbury Education Board yesterday morning when it recorded regret at his death. After being in the board’s employ since 1907, including many years as secretary. Mr Rowley had won the high respect and affection of everyone concerned in education, said the chairman (Mr S. J. Irwin). He had been most popular with teachers, and his tact had overcome many of the board’s problems. Mr E. P. Doogue, secretary of the Board of Trade, has been appointed administration officer of the Department of Industries and Commerce. He will be responsible for the efficient integration of the many activities of the department. Mr Doogue’s successor as secretary of the Board of Trade will be announced shortly.— (P.A.) Mr A. C. Wright was elected chairman at the annual conference of the meat and wool section of North Canterbury Federated Farmers. Mr R. E. Hiatt was elected vice-chairman.
