Lancashire, the English championship leaders, Glamorgan and Gloucester, all won their county cricket matches today with a day and a halt to spare. Lancashire, who had trailed Essex by three runs on the first innings, rallied today to beat the southern county by eight wickets. It was Lancashire’s sixth championship victory of the season, and the thirst they had completed inside two days. The fast bowler, Freddie Moore, who is deputising for the test man, Brian Statham, helped to bundle Essex out today for 130 by taking six wickets for 45. This gave him a match return of 11 wickets for 81. Lancashire now lead in the table by 16 points from their nearest rivals, Sursurey, who have no county game in the current programme. A splendid forcing innings by their 43-year-old captain, George Emmett, carried Gloucestershire to their first victory over Yorkshire since 1948. With Gloucestershire leit to score 99 to win, Emmett, who hit 62, and Arthur Milton, raced to 100 in an hour. Don Shepherd, with off-cutters, played the leading role in Glamorgan’s win by idling eight Hampshire wickets today for 33 on a wearing wicket to finish with match figures of 12 for 64. For the third successful day, a "hattrick" was performed. Today’s feat was achieved by R. G. Thompson, Warwickshire’s seam bowler, who at Horsham captured the first three Sussex second innings wickets with successive deliveries. Close-of-day scores today were:—
