N.Z. PATRIOTIC FUND
TOTAL OF MORE THAN £4,000,000 (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 19. Patriotic and canteen funds held in New Zealand still exceeded £4,000.000, said a report to the annual conference of the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association today. The combined funds of the New Zealand Patriotic Fund Board and the Canteen Fund Board at September 30, 1955, amounted to £2.703.457 and the income of the two boards exceeded expenditure by £9859. In addition, funds held by the 14 provincial councils (autonomous bodies) totalled £1,495,158. At the end of last March, there were 247 residents in the boards’ seven homes, which were 89 per cent. full. Under the current £600,000 building programme a new Rannerdale Home is being built in Christchurch to house 60 veterans, a new wing is being added to Montecillo (Dunedin), and an entirely new home is to be built at Levin to house 104 veterans. This project will cost £214,000.
