CRICKET COACHING BY PROFESSIONAL
WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION PLANS FOR FUTURE
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 12. A professional coach will not be appointed by the Wellington Cricket Association for the coming season, b it inquiries are to be set in train immediately to find a suitable English player who would be available to come out to New Zealand next year. Last night the management committee of the association adopted a report from the coaching committee which recommended that no coach be appointed for the coming season in view of the financial position and lack of time in which to make an appointment and get the coach out The report pointed out that the association’s coaching funds were on a long-term basis. Members of the committee suggested that a suitable type of player for the position would be an allrounder —in preference to purely a batsman —just on the verge of retiring from first-class cricket, and wiling to play in the Saturday competitions. but not to play in the representative side. The committee decided to give consideration later to a local coaching scheme during the coming season.
