AMURI COUNTY COUNCIL
£13,594 SPENT IN THREE MONTHS Expenditure by the Amuri County Council for the first quarter of the financial year had been £13,594, the clerk (Mr H. M. Searle) reported to the monthly meeting of the county council. The works report showed that good progress had been made with the Mount Paul bridge which would be open for traffic in a month. Contractors had started the reconstruction of the Hanmer road, the report said. The temporary Bailey bridge at Culverden School Creek would be built during the month and tenders were being called for the construction of a permanent two-way bridge. Councillor Wilson reported that an inspection had been made of the foundation timbers of the Culverden Hall. It would be necessary to carry
out repairs to floor joists and wall plates on the south side of the building, he said.
In reply to a request by the council, the Conservator of Fbrests advised that he would be pleased to discuss with the council a proposal to take water from the Hurunui river to increase the supply to the Balmoral water race system. About four and a half miles of the proposed new race would pass through part of the Balmoral Forest.
The Minister of Works (Mr W. S. Goosman) wrote advising that he had asked the Commissioner of Works to report on the question of an irrigation scheme for the Culverden and Rotherham plains area.
The secretary of the Culverden Fire Brigade wrote agreeing to the use of a part of the Are station land as a site for the proposed St. John Ambulance quarters.
Five objections were received to j taking a section in the Hanmer township fnr a war memorial hall. It was | decided to invite the objectors to atj tend the next council meeting and produce evidence in support of their I objections.
