“DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT ”
MR MCLACHLAN CRITICAL OF AUCKLAND (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 12. “Auckland is going ahead as usual, regretting the situation, but not doing much about it,” said the chairman of the Local Government Commission (Mr A. A. McLachlan, S.M.) in Auckland today. He was talking generally on the local government set-up in the city. The commission is hearing a petition from 1830 petitioners of Mount Roskill for secession from that
borough and amalgamation of their area with One Tree Hill.
Mr McLachlan said nothing much had happened on the city-side of the harbour since the commission adjourned the matter six months ago “thinking there would be a movement somewhere in Auckland to put its house in order.”
“A step towards getting together has been taken by South Auckland boroughs on an experimental basis.” he added.
“The North Shore yesterday started to get trimmed for something better, but mostly Auckland is going ahead as usual, regretting the situation, but doing nothing about it.”
