OBITUARY
MRS A. B. EDWARDES One of New Zealand’s leading women skiers 20 years ago, Mrs A. B. Edwardes. of Christchurch, has died at Santa Monica. California. Mrs Edwardes was a member of the Christcnurch Ski Club from 1931 to the time of her death, and for many years was women’s vice-president. Mrs Edwardes was the first woman skier in New Zealand, to reach real racing standards. She won the New Zealand women’s championship in 1933. 1934. 1935, and in 1937 was a member of the New Zealand team which went to Australia. This was the first New Zealand team to go overseas. Mrs Edwardes is survived by her husband, two daughters, .and a son. MRS B. V. COOKSLEY (New Zealana Press Association > MASTERTON, June 12. The death occurred this morning of Mrs Cooksley, wife of Mr B. V. Cooksley, member of Parliament for Wairarapa, after an illness lasting several months. She was the eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs W-. J. Blows, of Levin, and a granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Fox, pioneer settlers of the Hutt district. In her younger days she represented Horowhenua and Hawke’s Bay at hockey. She took a keen interest in her husband’s political duties.
