FEW APPRENTICES TO PLUMBING
ADDING TO SKILLED LABOUR SHORTAGE Concern at the small number of apprentices taking up the plumbing trade and the reluctance of employers to train apprentices—resulting in a lack of skilled labour to meet commercial, industrial and public plumbing demands—was expressed by the retiring president (Mr S. G. Lindsay) at the annual meeting of the North Canterbury Master Plumbers’ Association.
Mr Lindsay said that as parents were responsible for guiding their sons’ future they should be encouraged to place their sons in a trade. Membership of the association was increasing steadily. At present it stood at 116, said Mr Lindsay. Officers elected were: president. Mr A. G. Woods; senior vice-president, Mr B. Daniel; junior vice-president, Mr C. H. Russell; auditor; Mr F. J. C. Dann; secretary-treasurer, Messrs Congreve and Gardner; publicity officer, Mr C. H. Russell; executive, Messrs I. W. D. Henderson, K. A. White, H. W. Large, L. R. McNally, A. A. Glendinning, S. G. Lindsay, N. A. Wilson.
