BAPTISMAL SERVICE AT SPENCERVILLE
Y.W.C.A. CAMP BUILDING USED
A family church service attended by nearly 50 adults and children was held in the Y.W.C.A. centennial camp building at Spencerville on Sunday afternoon. The service was conducted by the Rev. C. S. Knight, who later baptised six children, whose ages ranged from eight weeks to four years and a half. The children are members of four local families. They were'Gail and Gregory Crisp, Fay Gaudin,. Juliet and Janet Osbahr. and Stephen Scott. A christening tea party was held later, and a beautifully decorated cake, made and given by one of the godparents, Mrs M‘, J. Carnie, of Spencerville, was cut by Mrs Knight, assisted by Janet Osbahr. oldest child taking part in the baptismal ceremony. Mr Knight thanked the Y.W.C.A. for making its building available for the occasion, which, he said, was an important one in the history of the local community. The association’s president (Mrs A. E. Foote) said it was hoped that the service would be ,the forerunner of others in the camp building.
The house of Jacques Heim, in Paris/ has an order for a unique fur coat., which will take six or more years to complete It is of natural white astrakhan and when it is finished will be the only one of its kind in existence. Heim is’making it for 22-year-old Princess Belkis, daughter of the King of Afghanistan, who expects to wear it for the first time on or soon after her twenty-eighth birthday. The reason for the coat’s long time in the making is the scarcity of skins. Only about four are born each year; skins of these are kept and sent to Heim. “So far we have 15,” said a member of the firm. “We need at least 40 to make a coat of reasonable length.” The lambskins are a gift from the Afghans to the princess.
