CAR CLUB SPEED TRIALS
STANDING ! MILE CHAMPIONSHIP
FASTEST TIME GOES TO M. F. STANTON
In spite of a wet road that caused a good deal of wheelspin times were fast when the Canterbury Car Club held its standing quarter-mile championship event on the Halsweil Junction road. With the tremendous power from its Gypsy Major aero engine, M. F. Stanton’s Special recorded 13.245ec —the fastest time of the day for all sections.
Among a host of sports cars, L. S. Lester, in a Jaguar XKI2OC, established fastest time, only ,06sec faster than the Austin-Healey of the club captain, E. A. Kennard.
R. W. Skurr, driving a Vauxhall Velox, was the fastest in the touring section, with H. J. Heasley, of Rangiora, a close second.

Racing cars: M. F. Stanton (Stanton Special), 13.245ec, 1; L. S. Lester (Jaguar XKI2OO, 15.265ec, 2; F Shuter (Cadillac Special), 15.595ec, 3. Sports cars: L. S. Lester (Jaguar XKI2OC), 15.265ec. 1; E. A. Kennard (Austin-Healey), 15.205ec, 2: H C W Shaw (TR 2), 18.38 sec, 3.
Touring cars: R. W. Skurr (Vauxhall Velox). 21.095ec. 1; H. J. Heasley (Ford Consul), 22.105ec, 2; M. J. Ellis (Humber 80), 22.135ec, 3.
