USE OF POWER
South Island Below Allocation
(New Zeal ana Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 11.
Electricity consumption in the South Island was 5.2 per cent, below allocation for the week ending June 10 and in the North Island it was 9.4 per cent, above the allocation, states a circular sent to electric supply authorities by the general manager of the State Hydro-electric Department (Mr A. E. Davenport). During the week there was a South Island storage loss, but as consumption was within the allocation for the week and the loss of storage was small, no special comment was needed, said Mr Davenport. Water was now being stored in Lake Wakatipu against the need when Roxburgh would be ready for operation, he added.
In the North Island, consumption “far exceeded” allocation. Mr Davenport said this was no doubt attributable to the cold weather, but any excess usage would have to be balanced by more severe curtailment sooner or later, he said.
