TRIAL FOR STALIN

Suggestion By Khrushchev

(Rec. 11 p.m.) PARIS, June 11. The Paris evening newspaper. “France-Soir,” reported today that Mr Nikita Khrushchev, the Soviet Communist Party chief, had told Soviet leaders that Stalin should be tried posthumously for his crimes. According to the newspaper, Mr Khrushchev made this statement in a second report on Stalin to a small committee in Moscow recently. The report was designed to deal with doubts and objections raised among the Russians by the first report on Stalin’s errors made to the twentieth congress of the Soviet Communist Party last February. The “France-Soir” copyright article said: “Khrushchev justifies the necessity for the revelations (of the first report) by the extent and the details of the late dictator’s crimes. “ ‘These crimes were such,’ he said, ‘that they should lead to judicial action, even posthumously.’ ” the newspaper said.

“France-Soir” said that Khrushchev’s report confirmed that Stalin killed his second wife.

The report said: “Khrushchev gives in his second report particularly horrible details on the private life and aberrations of Josef Stalin.

“He speaks of the veritable mania which characterised the dictator’s last years, of the obsessions degenerating into sadism and directed towards girls of more and more tender age. “A certain number of these young women, and girls who were minors, are understood to have disappeared in mysterious circumstances. They had been recruited in a sort of veritable ‘harem’ by Beria, former head of the M.V.D. and the intimate confidant of stalin.” [Beria was executed after Stalin’s death in 1953.1
