Foreign Aid Cut To Stay
(Rec. 11 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 7. The House of Representatives defeated aji attempt today to restore 600,000,000 dollars of the 1.100,000,000 dollars previously cut from President Eisenhower's foreign aid programme. In a major setback for the President’s foreign policy, the House voted by 192 to 112 to defeat the restoration amendment.
In a message sent to Congress just before the vote, the President called the 600,000,000-dollar figure the minimum amount needed to assure the “vital” defence buildup of the free world.
