Senior Rugby Draw
The system addpted by other major centres of publishing the senior- Rugby draw a week in advance could well be adopted in Christchurch. At present, the Canterbury Rugby Union’s senior draw is published on the Wednesday before each round.
The 12 coaches of senior teams In Christchurch would welcome such an innovation. Eleven of them, when asked by “The Press.” were emphatic that two weeks’ notice of matches would be of invaluable assistance. The twelfth, while not rejecting the idea, said he would lixe to see it published each Tuesday morning. Coaches emphasised their present difficulties with training being carried out on Tuesday evenings. With no knowledge of which team they would be meeting on Saturday, tactics could not be discussed nor could the team be arranged to give emergencies a game if the opposing team was a weak one.
From the union’s point of view, the major drawback to the system is that with positions fluctuating among the top teams, it might not be possible to arrange a week in advance an attractive draw for the main game at Park. Other unions have the same problems, but do not seem to lose by it. •
