RANGIORA COUNTY COUNCIL
GENERAL RATE THE SAME AS LAST YEAR The general rate fixed by the Rangiora County Council for the current, year at its monthly meeting yesterday is Id. the same as it was last year. The hospital rate has been reduced to l-12d compared with l-6d last year. It was decided to inform the Pines Beach Association that, as the Kaiapo! Borough Council was not prepared to give assistance for the paving of JO chains of road near the beach, the work could not be proceeded with. A deputation from the Woodend Fire Protection Committee waited on the council seeking assistance. It was agreed that the committee be informed that the council would consider the granting of a subsidy for works to supply water but that the council was not in favour of the purchase of old equipment from Kaiapoi. A letter was received from the Rangiora-Waikuku Beach Domaixv Board stating that the road to the beach had been washed out about three years ago and it was considered that in its present condition it was unsafe for traffic. Would it be possible to carry out improvements of a more permanent nature in the near future? the letter asked. It vfas agred to reply that the council would maintain the road in its present state until it learned what the. proposals of the North Canterbury Catchment Board in that locality were. A donation of £5 was approved for the provincial music festival to be held in Rangiora in September.
