AMALGAMATION OF COUNTIES
RANGIORA WANTS MORE REPRESENTATION
“It is a bit too lopsided. We ought to object to it,” said Mr J. Frazer when the Rangiora County Council was discussing the Local Government Commission’s proposals for the union of the Ashley, Eyre, Kowai and Rangiora counties and the proposed dissolution of the Waimakariri-Ashley Water Supply Board yesterday. Mr Frazer added that under the proposal- only four councillors were allowed the Rangiora county, which had a rateable capital value of more than £3,000,000, while the Ashley county, with a rateable value of less than £1,000,000, was to be allowed three councillors. *
The county clerk (Mr S. G. Dailey) said that on the - basis of population and valuation Rangiora appeared to be entitled to a greater representation. It was decided to send an objection to the Commission.
